Watt Powell Park was named to honor Charleston's best-known baseball promoter, a former minor league ballplayer. He managed the Kanawha Hotel pool hall for years, and brought pro baseball back to Charleston in 1931, after a 15-year absence. Watt Powell Park was built on the site of Kanawaha Park with a $350,000 bond issue. The catcher faces SW. The park was renovated in 1987
