Peanut Park

S. Saratoga (1B) & Granby (CF) Streets at Carolina Road (US 13 & SH 32).
Capacity: 2,200 (1919); 2,500 (1948); 5,000 (1950)
The original League Park sat thusly, S. Saratoga (HP), Park Avenue (LF) & Granby (RF). Park Avenue is Carolina Road today, thus the catcher faced SE. Peanut Park was built on the same site. A 1944 map shows the park next to the large Suffolk Peanut Company, thus accounting for the park's name. The park had a grandstand and a bleacher section extending well down the RF line. A smaller bleacher section sat on the 3B side; the clubhouse was beyond the 3B bleachers. The catcher faced SSW. A National Guard armory was outside the park along the 3B line. Planters Park is two blocks away from the extant Peanut Park.
