Built in 1946. Vince Genna Stadium was used for softball and American Legion tournaments. The amateur park measured 299 feet down both lines with wooden outfield fences which were replaced with 10 foot steel sign panels in 1962. It was renamed in 1972 for Vince Genna, who was a long-time Park and Recreation director, and who did much of the stadium remodeling. Genna also coached Bend American Legion teams for many years. With donated materials and land, the original construction of the park was a community project. The stadium was laid out 90 degrees off prescribed alignment, so that the sun sets over left center. The city manager, who thought all ballgames would be played at night, forgot about Daylight Savings Time.
