Aces Park
Also Known As: Athletic Park 1902-1906; Recreation Park 1908; Burkart Park 1909-1915; Opportunity Park 1919Location: Saginaw, MI
West side of the Saginaw River, at Davenport Avenue & Mary Street, just north of the Genesee Bridge.
Capacity: 3,000
Opened in 1908, the park was destroyed by fire at the end of the first season. Team owner A. S. Burkart rebuilt the park in 1909. Since his team had won the league championship in 1908, the town named the park for him. The rebuilt park had a larger grandstand, and was considered to be one of the state's finest ballparks. The park was flooded in 1912 when the Saginaw River overflowed, and the grandstand was destroyed by fire in 1913. It was rebuilt during the season. The site is now the Davenport Avenue city dump. Mary Street does not exist today.
