The park is also the home of the Lamar University baseball team. It is named for Al Vincent, a former pro baseball player who served as a volunteer assistant coach for the Lamar team and for Bryan Beck, a former member of the University's Board of Regents, who personally financed many of the athletic facilities. Expansion from a college field to a professional one cost $1 million in 1983.
