Opened Easter Sunday 1941. Frank Lawrence Stadium, named for the president of the local bank, was owned and operated by the Portsmouth Parks and Recreation Dept. Frank Lawrence was involved in the design and construction of the park. The catcher faced NE. A 1950 map shows the park with a grandstand and concrete bleachers. Much of the seating capacity was contained in a large concrete grandstand in CF, which was the football grandstand. After the 1969 season the IL Tidewater club moved to Norfolk.
