Woodruff Field

Opened May 7, 1923, the field cost of $50,000 to build. Lights were added in 1930, costing $8,000. They were replaced in 1953 by fourteen 90-foot light towers. The Central RR tracks ran nearby. The catcher faced SE. The park originally seated 2,600 in the grandstand and 5,500 in the bleachers. It was named for E.N. Woodruff, the long-time mayor of Peoria. A 1927 map shows a deep grandstand with a steel-truss roof, and concrete seats. Long, narrow bleacher sections extended nearly to the fences on both sides. The park underwent extensive renovation in 1953, and was torn down in 1970.
