Opened April 13, 1915, the park was built by Pelicans owner Julius Heinemann, who had started as a vendor at Athletic Park. The old Athletic Park grandstand was dismantled after the 1914 season and brought to the new site, where it was rebuilt for $50,000 in time for the 1915 opener. The catcher faced south. Larry Gilbert, who managed the club from 1923-1938, was the first New Orleans native to play in the major leagues. Torn down October 1957, the site is now occupied by a motor hotel, next to the Pontchartrain Expressway (I-10.)
