Built in 1982, and opened April 22, 1983, the construction costs ran to $4.5 million. The grandstand had just seven rows; bleachers line both foul lines. The name, Beehive Stadium, was chosen in a 'name the ballpark' contest; it comes from the town emblem, adopted in 1873.
