Hodges Field was used during part of the 1960 season following the pre-season fire that destroyed Russwood Park. The facility was a high school football field totally unsuited for baseball, RF was just 204'the shortest distance in organized ball in 75 years. There was a 40-foot wall, but it did little to keep fly balls within the ballpark. Eleven home runs were hit in the season opener. Eventually, Southern Association and Memphis officials established a rule that balls hit over that fence would be ground rule doubles.
