Oates Park
Location: Asheville, NCSouthside Avenue (RF), McDowell (3B) & Choctaw (CF) Streets.
Capacity: 1,200
Oates Park was located in a residential area. A church sat just behind the 1B stands. Home runs often broke windows on Choctaw Street, and Thomas Wolfe learned about baseball here. The Park was the site of the shortest (fastest) game in minor league history, August 31, 1916. In a meaningless game with Winston-Salem, the two clubs hurried to meet their train. The game lasted 31 minutes, the teams caught the early train, and the spectators were refunded their admission price.
