The Billings Mustangs of the Pioneer League ended the 1961 season with a record of 55 wins and 73 losses, finishing sixth in the PL.

The Mustangs plated 697 runs, worst in the circuit, and conceded 808 runs. Chris Krug paced Billings with 17 home runs, and Russ Townsend walloped 15 or more, too. Chris Krug drove in 81 runs. Calvin Knowles topped hitters with significant playing time by connecting at a .319 clip. Frederick Wall and Connie Newman led the team with 8 wins each, while Otto Meischner registered a 4.07 earned run average, leading pitchers with enough qualifying appearances.
