The Yakult Swallows of the Japan Central League ended the 1980 season with a record of 68 wins and 52 losses, finishing second in the JPCL.
The Swallows paced the league with 562 runs. Yakult allowed 462 runs. Katsuo Osugi led the squad with 21 home runs, while Toru Sugiura, Sam Perlozzo, Tsutomu Wakamatsu and John Scott each walloped 15 or more, too. Katsuo Osugi drove in 82 runs. Tsutomu Wakamatsu topped all qualifying hitters on the roster by hitting .351. Kenichi Kajima paced the team with 15 wins, and Hiromu Matsuoka registered a 2.35 earned run average, best among qualifying pitchers.
Sam Perlozzo and John Scott both played in Major League Baseball during their careers.
