The Yomiuri Giants of the Japan Central League ended the 1974 season with a record of 71 wins and 50 losses, finishing second in the JPCL.
The Giants topped the circuit with 589 runs, spearheaded by 159 home runs. Yomiuri allowed 460 runs. Sadaharu Oh walloped 49 home runs for the team, while Shigeo Nagashima and Masahiro Yanagida added 15 or more as well. Sadaharu Oh drove in 107 runs and topped all regular batters by hitting .332. Tsuneo Horiuchi paced the team with 19 wins, and Mitsuhiro Sekimoto earned a 2.28 ERA, leading hurlers with significant time on the mound. Tetsuharu Kawakami served as manager.
