The Giants topped the circuit with 559 runs. Yomiuri yielded 335 runs, fewest in the league. Sadaharu Oh walloped 48 home runs for the team, and Shigeo Nagashima added 15 or more also. Sadaharu Oh drove in 116 runs. Shigeo Nagashima paced all qualifying hitters on the roster by hitting .344. Kunio Jonouchi led the squad with 21 wins, while Tsuneo Horiuchi contributed 15 or more victories also Tsuneo Horiuchi registered a 1.39 earned run average, leading hurlers with significant time on the mound. Tetsuharu Kawakami served as manager.
