The Giants led the league with 560 runs, sparked by 147 home runs. Yomiuri allowed 472 runs. Sadaharu Oh crushed 55 homers for the team, while Shigeo Nagashima and Isao Shibata walloped 15 or more, too. Sadaharu Oh drove in 119 runs and topped all qualifying hitters on the roster by hitting .320. Kunio Jonouchi paced the team with 18 wins and a team-best 2.23 earned run average, best among qualifying pitchers. Tetsuharu Kawakami served as manager.
