The Savannah/Lynchburg White Sox of the South Atlantic League ended the 1962 season with a record of 92 wins and 47 losses, finishing first in the SAL.Savannah (89-47) moved to Lynchburg on August 26 because of racial conflict.

The White Sox led the league with 834 runs, sparked by 127 home runs. Savannah/Lynchburg surrendered 613 runs. Deacon Jones paced the team with 26 home runs, and Manly Johnston walloped 15 or more also. Deacon Jones drove in 101 runs. Don Buford topped all qualifying hitters on the roster by connecting at a .323 clip. Manly Johnston and Fritz Ackley paced the squad with 13 wins each, while Mike DeGerick recorded a 2.89 ERA, tops among regular hurlers.
