The Stockton Ports of the California League ended the 1979 season with a record of 73 wins and 68 losses, finishing second in the league's North Division.

The Ports led the league with just 594 runs allowed. Stockton scored 654 runs. Eddie Brunson drove in 71 runs. John Skorochocki paced all regular batters by hitting .300. Dave LaPoint and Tony Torres topped the squad with 12 wins each, while Gerald Ako recorded a 2.87 ERA, tops among hurlers with significant time on the mound.

Dave LaPoint, Jaime Cocanower, Bob Skube, Barry Cort, Doug Loman, Steve Lake, Frank DiPino and David Green were all players from the 1979 Stockton Ports who played in the Majors during their careers.
