The Seibu Lions of the Japan Pacific League ended the 1988 season with a record of 73 wins and 51 losses, finishing first in the JPPL.

The Lions paced the league with 645 runs, sparked by 176 home runs. Seibu allowed 531 runs. Ty Van Burkleo and Koji Akiyama each. walloped 38 home runs for the team, while Hiromichi Ishige and Kazuhiro Kiyohara added 15 or more as well. Koji Akiyama drove in 103 runs. Ken Hirano led all regular batters with a .303 average. Hisanobu Watanabe topped the team with 15 wins, and Taigen Kaku recorded a 2.41 ERA, tops among pitchers with enough qualifying appearances.

Ty Van Burkleo played in Major League Baseball during his career, the only member of the Seibu Lions to do so.
