The Salt Lake City Gulls of the Pacific Coast League ended the 1979 season with a record of 80 wins and 68 losses, finishing second in the league's South Division.

The Gulls scored 845 runs and conceded 777 runs. Ike Hampton walloped 30 home runs for Salt Lake City, while Pepe Mangual, James Peters and Bobby Clark each swatted 15 or more, too. Ike Hampton drove in 97 runs. Rance Mulliniks paced all regular hitters with a .343 average. Bob Ferris topped the team with 14 wins and a team-best 4.5 ERA, tops among regular hurlers.
