The Quad Cities River Bandits of the Midwest League ended the 1998 season with a record of 77 wins and 62 losses, finishing first in the league's West Division.

The River Bandits plated 657 runs and conceded 558 runs. J. J. Thomas paced Quad Cities with 21 home runs Eric Cole recorded 83 runs batted in and topped all regular hitters by hitting .280. Eric Ireland led the team with 14 wins, while Tom Shearn recorded a 2.25 ERA, leading regular hurlers.

Brad Lidge, Johan Santana, Tim Hamulack, Barry Wesson, Aaron Miles, Tom Shearn, Mike Rose and Wilfredo Rodríguez were all players from the 1998 Quad Cities River Bandits who played in the Majors during their careers.
