The Nishitetsu Lions of the Japan Pacific League ended the 1972 season with a record of 47 wins and 80 losses, finishing sixth in the JPPL.
The Lions tallied 439 runs, worst in the circuit, and conceded 598 runs. Mitsuo Motoi paced Nishitetsu with 20 home runs, while Masashi Takenouchi walloped 15 or more as well. Masashi Takenouchi recorded 46 runs batted in. Mitsuo Motoi led hitters with significant playing time by hitting .301. Osamu Higashio topped the team with 18 wins, plus Hajime Kato, too added 15 or more wins, too Akira Tanaka recorded a 2.39 ERA, leading regular hurlers.
Aaron Pointer played in Major League Baseball during his career, the only member of the Nishitetsu Lions to do so.
