The Nishitetsu Lions of the Japan Pacific League ended the 1956 season with a record of 96 wins and 51 losses, finishing first in the JPPL.
The Lions paced the league with just 372 runs allowed. Nishitetsu scored 611 runs. Futoshi Nakanishi led the team with 29 home runs and recorded 95 runs batted in. Futoshi Nakanishi and Yasumitsu Toyoda topped hitters with significant playing time by hitting .325. Yukio Shimabara notched 25 wins on the mound for the squad, while Sadao Nishimura, Kazuhisa Inao and Hisafumi Kawamura each added 15 or more wins, too Kazuhisa Inao recorded a 1.06 ERA, best among qualifying pitchers. Osamu Mihara served as manager.
