The Nishitetsu Lions of the Japan Pacific League ended the 1953 season with a record of 57 wins and 61 losses, finishing fourth in the JPPL.
The Lions plated 487 runs and conceded 477 runs. Futoshi Nakanishi walloped 36 home runs for Nishitetsu, and Yasumitsu Toyoda added 15 or more also. Futoshi Nakanishi recorded 86 runs batted in and topped all qualifying hitters on the roster by hitting .314. Tokuji Kawasaki recorded 24 wins on the mound for the team and a team-best 1.99 earned run average, leading regular hurlers.
Phil Paine played in Major League Baseball during his career, the only member of the Nishitetsu Lions to do so.
