The Montgomery Rebels/Knoxville Smokies of the South Atlantic League ended the 1956 season with a record of 53 wins and 87 losses, finishing eighth in the SAL.Montgomery (25-30) transferred to Knoxville June 18.
The Rebels/Smokies scored 565 runs and gave up 739 runs, most in the circuit. Jerry DelGaudio paced batters with significant playing time by hitting .267. Manny Fierro topped Montgomery/Knoxville with 13 wins, while Hal Dodeward recorded a 3.11 ERA, tops among regular hurlers.
Joe Scott played in Major League Baseball during his career, the only member of the Montgomery Rebels/Knoxville Smokies to do so.
