The Macon Braves of the South Atlantic League ended the 1998 season with a record of 69 wins and 72 losses, finishing first in the league's South Division.

The Braves led the league with 770 runs, fueled by 173 home runs. Macon surrendered 814 runs, most in the circuit. Marcus Giles walloped 37 home runs for the squad, while Troy Cameron, Jeff Spencer and Jason Hairston each added 15 or more also. Marcus Giles drove in 108 runs and topped all qualifying hitters on the roster with a .329 average. Rubén Quevedo paced the squad with 11 wins, and Derrick Lewis recorded a 3.82 ERA, best among regularly-used pitchers.

Steve Torrealba, Pedro Borbón, John Smoltz, Rubén Quevedo, Horacio Ramírez, Marcus Giles, Jason Shiell, Joey Nation and Luis Rivera were all players from the 1998 Macon Braves who played in the Major Leagues during their careers.
