The Lotte Orions of the Japan Pacific League ended the 1972 season with a record of 59 wins and 68 losses, finishing fifth in the JPPL.
The Orions scored 583 runs and allowed 621 runs, most in the circuit. Michiyo Arito led Lotte with 29 home runs, while Hiroyuki Yamazaki, George Altman and Takenori Ikebe each walloped 15 or more, too. George Altman drove in 90 runs and topped hitters with significant playing time with a .328 average. Osamu Nomura paced the team with 14 wins, and Masaaki Kitaru registered a 3.88 earned run average, best among regular hurlers.
Frank Johnson and George Altman both played in Major League Baseball during their careers.
