The Hiroshima Toyo Carp of the Japan Central League ended the 1981 season with a record of 67 wins and 54 losses, finishing second in the JPCL.
The Toyo Carp scored 605 runs, most in the league. Hiroshima gave up 519 runs. Koji Yamamoto walloped 43 home runs for the squad, while Art Gardner, Jitsuo Mizutani, Jim Lyttle and Sachio Kinugasa each swatted 15 or more, too. Koji Yamamoto drove in 103 runs. Jitsuo Mizutani paced all regular hitters by connecting at a .337 clip. Manabu Kitabeppu topped the team with 16 wins, and Yutaka Ono recorded a 2.68 ERA, tops among regular hurlers.
Jim Lyttle and Art Gardner both played in Major League Baseball during their careers.
