The Greenville Red Sox of the Western Carolinas League ended the 1971 season with a record of 62 wins and 63 losses, finishing third in the WCL.

The Red Sox scored 615 runs and surrendered 593 runs. Steven Miller paced Greenville with 20 home runs, while Gary Myers walloped 15 or more, too. Gary Myers drove in 84 runs. Frank Vazquez led all regular batters by connecting at a .289 clip. Samuel Phillips and Rick Kreuger topped the squad with 10 wins each, and Rick Kreuger recorded a 3.11 ERA, tops among pitchers with enough qualifying appearances.

Bill Moran, Rick Kreuger, Bo Díaz, Rick Burleson, Jim Wright, Ramón Avilés and Tim Blackwell were all players from the 1971 Greenville Red Sox who played in the Majors during their careers.
