The Greensboro Hornets of the South Atlantic League ended the 1982 season with a record of 96 wins and 45 losses, finishing first in the league's North Division.

The Hornets led the circuit with 857 runs, spearheaded by 118 home runs. Greensboro yielded 645 runs, fewest in the league. Mike Pagliarulo paced the team with 22 home runs, while Mike Lebo, Mike Reddish and Matt Winters each walloped 15 or more, too. Matt Winters drove in 93 runs. Víctor Mata topped batters with significant playing time by connecting at a .314 clip. Mark Silva, Dave Szymczak and Mark Shiflett paced the squad with 14 wins each, and Mark Shiflett recorded a 2.42 ERA, leading regular hurlers.

Matt Winters, Edwin Rodríguez, Orestes Destrade, Pete Dalena, Víctor Mata, Mike Pagliarulo and Bill Lindsey were all players from the 1982 Greensboro Hornets who played in the Majors during their careers.
