The Capital City Bombers of the South Atlantic League ended the 1996 season with a record of 82 wins and 57 losses, finishing second in the league's Central Division.

The Bombers led the league with just 451 runs allowed. Capital City scored 593 runs. Fletcher Bates paced the team with 15 home runs Terrence Long drove in 78 runs and topped all qualifying hitters on the roster with a .288 average. Nelson Figueroa paced the squad with 14 wins and a team-best 2.04 earned run average, best among pitchers with enough qualifying appearances.
