The Asheville Tourists of the South Atlantic League ended the 1996 season with a record of 84 wins and 52 losses, finishing first in the league's Central Division.

The Tourists scored 612 runs and yielded 526 runs. Justin Drizos led Asheville with 18 home runs and drove in 76 runs. Dave Feuerstein paced all qualifying hitters on the roster by connecting at a .286 clip. Scott Randall topped the team with 14 wins and a team-best 2.74 ERA, best among pitchers with enough qualifying appearances.
