The Flyers netted 327 goals and surrendered 254. Reggie Leach scored 50 goals for Philadelphia, while Bill Barber, Rick MacLeish, Paul Holmgren and Brian Propp each tallied 30 or more also. Ken Linseman and Bobby Clarke each recorded 57 assists. Pete Peeters earned 29 wins in front of the net for the squad, and Phil Myre added 15 or more victories as well. Pete Peeters recorded a 2.73 goals against average, pacing goaltenders with enough qualifying appearances.

Pat Quinn coached the team. The 1979-80 Philadelphia Flyers lost in the Stanley Cup finals.
