The Flyers scored 281 goals and conceded 248. Bill Barber and Reggie Leach netted 34 goals for Philadelphia each, and Bobby Clarke contributed 57 assists. Wayne Stephenson topped the squad with 20 wins, while Bernie Parent added 15 or more wins, too. Bernie Parent recorded a 2.70 goals against average, pacing regularly-used goaltenders.

Bob McCammon and Pat Quinn coached the team. The 1978-79 Philadelphia Flyers lost in the NHL quarter-finals.
