The Toronto Argonauts of the Canadian Football League ended the 1996 season with a record of 15 wins and 3 losses for 30 points, finishing first in the CFL's East Division. The team compiled a postseason mark of 2-0.
On offense, Toronto scored 660 points, best in the league. The defense proved to be a force, as the Argonauts conceded 327 points, the lowest total in the circuit. Doug Flutie triggered the aerial attack, passing for 5,720 yards. Michael Clemons paced the receiving corps, snagging 116 passes for 1,268 yards, while Paul Masotti was targeted regularly, too.
Robert Drummond carried the ball for a team-best 935 yards, and Doug Flutie also contributed to the rushing attack.
The opportunistic defense manufactured 65 turnovers, best in the league. Donald Smith and Adrion Smith each seized 5 opponent throws. Rob Waldrop and Tim Cofield each sacked opposing passers 9 times.
Don Matthews coached the team. The 1996 Toronto Argonauts won the Grey Cup.
