The Texas Rangers of the American League ended the 1998 season with a record of 88 wins and 74 losses, finishing first in the AL's West Division.

The Rangers scored 940 runs and allowed 871 runs. Juan Gonzalez walloped 45 home runs for Texas, while Mike Simms, Rusty Greer, Lee Stevens, Roberto Kelly, Ivan Rodriguez and Will Clark each added 20 or more, too. Juan Gonzalez drove in 157 runs. Ivan Rodriguez paced all regular hitters with a .321 average. Rick Helling topped the squad with 20 wins, plus Aaron Sele contributed 15 or more wins, too Aaron Sele recorded a 4.23 ERA, best among regularly-used pitchers.

Johnny Oates coached the team. The 1998 Texas Rangers qualified for the playoffs as a division winner.
