The Blue Jays scored 731 runs and allowed 651 runs. Fred McGriff walloped 36 home runs for Toronto, while George Bell and Kelly Gruber added 20 or more as well. George Bell drove in 104 runs and topped all qualifying hitters on the roster by hitting .297. Dave Stieb led the team with 17 wins, and John Cerutti recorded a 3.07 ERA, best among regularly-used pitchers.

Jimy Williams and Cito Gaston coached the team. The 1989 Toronto Blue Jays qualified for the playoffs as a division winner.
