The Athletics scored 800 runs and allowed 620 runs. Jose Canseco walloped 42 home runs for Oakland, while Mark McGwire and Dave Henderson swatted 20 or more, too. Jose Canseco drove in 124 runs and topped all regular batters by hitting .307. Dave Stewart led the squad with 21 wins, and Storm Davis and Bob Welch added 15 or more victories also Dave Stewart recorded a 3.23 ERA, best among regularly-used pitchers.
Tony LaRussa coached the team. The 1988 Oakland Athletics won the League Championship Series.
