The Tigers led the league with 671 runs, ignited by 185 home runs. Detroit allowed 492 runs, least in the league. Willie Horton walloped 36 home runs for the team, while Jim Northrup, Norm Cash, Bill Freehan and Dick McAuliffe each added 20 or more also. Jim Northrup drove in 90 runs. Willie Horton paced all regular batters by hitting .285. Denny McLain earned 31 wins on the mound for the squad, and Mickey Lolich, too contributed 15 or more wins, too Denny McLain recorded a 1.96 ERA, best among regularly-used pitchers.
