The Detroit Tigers of the American League ended the 1966 season with a record of 88 wins and 74 losses, finishing third in the AL.
The Tigers tallied 719 runs and conceded 698 runs. Norm Cash walloped 32 home runs for Detroit, while Al Kaline, Dick McAuliffe, Jim Northrup and Willie Horton each swatted 20 or more also. Willie Horton drove in 100 runs. Al Kaline topped hitters with significant playing time by hitting .288. Denny McLain led the squad with 20 wins, and Earl Wilson recorded a 2.59 ERA, leading regularly-used pitchers.
