The Cincinnati Reds of the National League ended the 1961 season with a record of 93 wins and 61 losses, finishing first in the NL.
The Reds topped the league with just 653 runs allowed. Cincinnati scored 710 runs. Frank Robinson walloped 37 home runs for the team, while Gene Freese, Vada Pinson, Wally Post and Gordy Coleman each added 20 or more also. Frank Robinson accounted for 124 RBI. Vada Pinson led batters with significant playing time by hitting .343. Joey Jay paced the squad with 21 wins, and Jim O'Toole and Bob Purkey contributed 15 or more victories also Jim O'Toole recorded a 3.10 ERA, best among regularly-used pitchers.
