The Red Sox scored 796 runs, most in the league. Boston gave up 709 runs. Jim Rice paced the team with 22 home runs, while Bernie Carbo and Fred Lynn walloped 20 or more also. Fred Lynn recorded 105 runs batted in and topped hitters with significant playing time by hitting .331. Rick Wise paced the squad with 19 wins, and Bill Lee and Luis Tiant added 15 or more wins, too Roger Moret recorded a 3.60 ERA, tops among regularly-used pitchers.
